Four years old Isabella from Eritrea is one of over 1000 illegal immigrants who stay in the town of Calais, France  waiting to cross illegally into the UK. The new French immigration minister, Eric Besson declared:  'We are going to make the zone around Calais watertight to illegal immigration' during his visit in Calais on 27th January 2009. <br />
The town is a gathering point for illegal immigrants from Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Eritrea and Somalia trying to cross from France to UK. In 2008 Border and Immigration Agency searched over one million lorries and prevented about 18000 attempts by illegal immigrants to cross the channel into UK.
