According to 1991 census, the municipality of Strpce had a population of 12,712 people. As of 2006, Strpce has an ethnic Serbian majority, making it a Serb enclave in Kosovo.Serbs are currently the second largest ethnic group in the recently-declared state of Kosovo, which Serbia still claims as sovereign territory. There may be between 120,000 and 150,000 Serbs in Kosovo, forming 7%-8% of its total population.  The boys are showing the three-finger salute it is used by some Serbs. Most probably meaning of the salute is the way Orthodox Serbs cross, with the three fingers (which is associated with the Christian Trinity of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit). Another theory brought up by members of Serbian Renewal Movement political party, says that it was popularized by Vuk Dra?kovi? during street demonstrations in March, 1991 in Belgrade, where the three fingers represented the three demands that the Serbian Renewal Movement has put before the government.
